AIIMS Neurologist Warns: Severe Migraines Could Hide Dangerous Brain Tumours!

October 6, 2025

Migraines are often seen as just common headaches or stress, but sometimes they hide a dangerous secret. Dr Rahul Chawla, a top neurologist from AIIMS Delhi, revealed on Instagram how serious migraines can actually be. He shared a story of a 45-year-old man who had migraines for 20 years but suddenly faced nonstop severe head pain after stopping his medicine. At first, the man thought his bad headache was just a migraine and kept taking medicines bought from a pharmacy. But the pain did not stop even after a month! When the man visited Dr Chawla, small but worrying signs appeared — his voice had a slight stutter and his walk was unsteady. An MRI scan revealed a shocking truth: he had a brain tumour! Dr Chawla explained, “We call this a secondary headache. Often, a headache that feels like a migraine is not a migraine but a secondary headache, and it can have multiple causes. It is very important to identify these causes because they can be life-threatening.” How can you know if your migraine is serious? Dr Chawla advises everyone to be alert if your migraine suddenly gets worse or its nature changes. Watch for scary symptoms like severe vomiting with pain, seizures, vision problems, changes in voice, tingling or weakness in limbs, or unsteady walking. These warning signs might mean there is a serious problem in your brain. “Structural lesions could include a tumour, a mass caused by tuberculosis, neurocysticercosis, or other conditions,” Dr Chawla warns. “In such cases, visit a neurologist and get checked immediately.” Remember, not all headaches are harmless! If your migraine acts weird or gets very bad, don’t ignore it. Quick medical help can save your life. Stay alert and keep your brain safe!
