Get ready for some fantastic news on the National Highways! The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways announced a fresh, helpful rule that benefits drivers without a working FASTag. Usually, if your vehicle doesn’t have a functional FASTag, you pay double the usual toll fee when you pay in cash. But hold your seats—this is changing from November 15, 2025! Now, if you pay your toll using UPI (Unified Payment Interface), you will be charged only 1.25 times the applicable user fee. This is a big relief compared to the earlier twice-the-fee penalty. What’s the scoop behind this change? The ministry said it wants to “strengthen the fee collection process, enhance transparency in toll collection and promote ease of commuting for National Highway users.” Sounds like a smart move, right? This change comes as part of amended National Highways Fee Rules, aiming to boost digital payments and cut down the headaches of cash handling. Better use of technology means less waiting, smoother rides, and clearer toll transactions. It's a win-win! The ministry also highlighted, “It reflects the government’s commitment to leveraging technology for efficient toll collection and reducing congestion at the toll plazas.” This means fewer long queues and quicker travel for everyone. No more fumbling for cash or paying heavy penalties if you forget your FASTag! Just whip out your phone, pay via UPI, and enjoy the ride with a smaller toll burden. The new rules will encourage many more drivers to adopt digital payments, offering a transparent and user-friendly experience on National Highways. So, mark your calendar—November 15, 2025, is the day when paying toll becomes easier and cheaper for those without FASTag, as long as they choose UPI. Say goodbye to hassles and hello to hassle-free highways!
