Shock and Action! 11 Children Die from Coldrif Cough Syrup; CDSCO Cracks Down on Manufacturer

October 5, 2025

A chilling tragedy has struck families in India! Eleven innocent children died after consuming Coldrif cough syrup. This has sparked outrage and quick action from drug authorities. The syrup is made by Sresan Pharmaceuticals, which is now in the hot seat. The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) is stepping up and will write to the Tamil Nadu Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to take the strictest measures against Sresan Pharmaceuticals. These heart-breaking deaths happened in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhindwara district, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra. The news spread fast, forcing states like Kerala and Telangana to issue public alerts and ban Coldrif syrup immediately. But the story doesn’t end here. Another cough syrup brand, Nextro DS, also sold in Madhya Pradesh, is under investigation. Official sources revealed, “The Nextro DS syrups sample results are still pending. A total of 19 samples were collected, which include syrups, antibiotics, antipyretics, and ondansetron, all consumed by the children who fell sick in Madhya Pradesh.” The Tamil Nadu-FDA found that Coldrif syrup contained Diethylene Glycol (DEG) and Ethylene Glycol (EG) beyond safe limits! Madhya Pradesh drug regulators also took samples for testing, but the final report is still awaited. In a swift reaction, the Madhya Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, has banned the sale of Coldrif and Nextro DS syrups immediately. They also banned other products made by the same company to prevent any further mishaps. The Union Health Ministry has jumped in with a clear warning for all: cough and cold medicines must not be prescribed or given to children below two years old. The Ministry has sent letters to all states and Union Territories urging caution. The final word on Nextro DS will come once test results arrive, but one thing is certain: when it comes to children’s safety, authorities mean business. This sad event reminds us all to stay alert about what medicines our little ones take. Stay safe, stay aware!
