Hold on to your seats, Bollywood fans! Dharmatic Entertainment, the digital star child of famous Dharma Productions, is officially joining hands with its parent company. This big merger is part of a smart strategy to keep the Bollywood giant sleek and efficient in today’s fast-changing entertainment world. The merger wasn’t just a quick idea—it’s a planned, fast-track move already approved by shareholders and creditors of both companies, as company papers show. This is Dharma’s first major shake-up after selling half of its stake to entrepreneur Adar Poonawalla last year for a whopping Rs 1,000 crore, making Dharma worth Rs 2,000 crore! What’s the master plan? The merger, set to happen on April 1, 2025, will chop down the number of business entities, slash administrative costs, and make legal hurdles easier to jump over. Since Dharma already owns Dharmatic fully, the merger won’t involve any money exchange. The shares Dharma holds in Dharmatic will simply disappear because of this union. A company insider spilled the beans: “Dharmatic was envisioned as a digital-first creative studio, but the industry has evolved in ways that make integrated operations more impactful. This merger allows us to optimise resources and run a leaner, more efficient organisation while continuing to tell powerful stories across platforms.” Remember, Dharmatic Entertainment kicked off in 2018 as a studio focusing on fun fiction and non-fiction for streaming platforms. It’s the creative force behind hits like Fabulous Lives vs Bollywood and Koffee with Karan on Netflix and JioHotstar. Now, with this merger, get ready for even bigger and better stories from the Dharma team!
