Get ready, Bengaluru! Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced a grand plan on Saturday that will make the city proud of its founder, Nadaprabhu Kempegowda. A whopping ₹203 crore has been specially set aside for projects honoring this legendary figure. Here’s the masaledar scoop: ₹103 crore will go into developing and restoring all the Kempegowda memorials scattered across the city. That’s not all! Another ₹100 crore is charged up to establish a brand-new College of Urban Design in Kempegowda’s name. This college aims to train around 300 budding urban planners and will work closely with Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) to adopt cutting-edge curricula. The iconic Magadi Fort is already seeing a magical revival, with about 50% of restoration work done. To keep things smooth and fast, a dedicated committee will oversee the efforts. Moreover, around 10 acres of land near Kempegowda’s samadhi is being secured, with almost 90% of the process complete and funds ready to roll. Speaking about the future, Mr. Shivakumar painted an exciting picture: “Students graduating from the college will be considered for employment in the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) and municipal bodies.” This means fresh talent will directly pump energy into managing Bengaluru’s urban sprawl. The initiative’s funding will come jointly from the Urban Development Department, Kempegowda Authority, and GBA. Adding a cherry on top, the government has also decided to craft a theme park near the famous Kempegowda statue at Bengaluru airport. This fun project is being led by Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, who’s been handed the responsibility to bring this vision alive. Lastly, architects have already been invited to submit dazzling designs for the Kempegowda Bhavan, a five-acre landmark near Sumanahalli. Are you ready to see Bengaluru’s heritage and future bloom together? The city is on the move, and these vibrant projects promise to light up the skyline and our hearts! Stay tuned, Bengaluru lovers, because this celebration of Kempegowda’s legacy is just getting started!
