Panaji witnessed a spicy twist in the Rama Kankonkar assault case! Two weeks after he was attacked at Caranzalem, activist Rama Kankonkar finally gave a statement on Thursday night. In it, he clearly identified one of the accused who hurt him. But here’s the catch—this statement hasn’t helped the police crack the mystery of why he was attacked or who the big boss behind it all is. Kankonkar’s statement was taken at Goa Medical College (GMC), where he is still getting treatment. As SP (North) Rahul Gupta told reporters, “We have recorded the statement of Kankonkar. We are corroborating the statement of Kankonkar with evidence collected in the case.” The activist even said he could spot one or two more people who hit him, and he explained everything in a detailed five-page statement. Eight people are already behind bars accused of the attack. The arrested include Zenito Cardozo, 36; Anthony Nadar, 31; Francis Nadar, 28; Minguel Araujo, 24; and Franco D’Costa, 28 — all from Santa Cruz. Also held were Manish Hadfadkar, 24, from Chorao; Suresh Naik, 31; and Sairaj Govekar, 28, from Pilerne. A senior police officer revealed they may ask for fresh custody because a new law allows remand again if new investigation facts pop up. What happened on September 18 was shocking! The activist was allegedly battered with a cycle chain, his shirt torn, and, adding insult to injury, cow dung was rubbed on his face. The attackers even took photos of him before speeding away on bikes. All this chaos unfolded in just two minutes, as CCTV footage showed. Meanwhile, the Goa assembly’s recent session buzzed with political heat over the attack. The opposition pushed hard, demanding a long half-hour discussion on the assault, calling for the government to make a strong statement and condemn the violence. Yet, even after all this drama, the motive and the mastermind behind the brutal act remain hidden, keeping everyone waiting for answers.
