Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar and fellow Election Commissioners Vivek Joshi and S.S. Sandhu are arriving in Patna for a two-day electrifying review of poll readiness on Saturday, October 4, and Sunday, October 5, 2025. Why the buzz now? The current Bihar Assembly term ends on November 22, and the Election Commission (EC) is gearing up to conduct voting in several phases starting late October through November. “It is common practice for the poll authority to visit States before announcing the election schedule,” officials shared on October 3, 2025. During this crucial visit, CEC and his team will meet political party leaders, top police officials, and state poll authorities to ensure everything is set for smooth voting. Meanwhile, a briefing is underway for general, police, and expenditure observers appointed by the EC to keep a sharp eye on the Bihar polls. One hot topic swirling around is the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar’s electoral roll. Done after more than twenty years, the SIR wrapped up with the final voter list released on September 30, listing a whopping 7.42 crore voters! However, this massive exercise has sparked fiery criticism from opposition parties—they claim it might unfairly exclude millions of real voters. But the EC stands firm. It has declared, "It will not allow any eligible citizen to be left out of the voters' list and at the same time, no ineligible person will be on the list."
