Bengaluru is buzzing with big news! The Ward Delimitation Commission has proposed a total of 368 wards spread across five newly made city corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA). This is a major step following the Greater Bengaluru Governance Act - 2024, which officially started on May 15, 2025. The state government released the draft ward plan on Tuesday. Using the 2011 census data, the commission divided Bengaluru into these five parts: Bengaluru Central with 63 wards, Bengaluru South with 72, Bengaluru East with 50, Bengaluru West leading with 111, and Bengaluru North with 72 wards. To keep things balanced, there is a cap of 150 wards per corporation. What went into this huge decision? The commission carefully looked at population figures, the size of areas, how crowded places are, how much revenue they produce, and where people work, especially outside farming. This detailed approach aims to make sure the wards are fair and practical. Now, the government wants the people to have their say! Anyone affected by this draft plan can send their objections or suggestions to the Additional Chief Secretary of the Urban Development Department. But hurry, the deadline is sharp at 5 pm on October 15. All valid feedback will be checked before the final ward map is set. Who made this happen? The delimitation work was done by a special Commission formed on September 2. It was led by Maheshwar Rao, the Chief Commissioner of the Greater Bengaluru Authority. The team also included the top commissioners from the five city corporations, the Deputy Commissioner of Bengaluru Urban district, and the Special Commissioner for Administration, Revenue, and IT at the GBA. They had just three months to do their magic and delivered the report on September 30. This draft release is not just a formality—it’s a vibrant leap toward bringing the five new corporations to life and reshaping Bengaluru’s urban governance. The city’s new face is taking shape, and the citizens' voices will guide the final steps. Exciting times lie ahead for Bengaluru’s future!
