In a thrilling shot put battle at the National Open Athletics Championships in Ranchi on Monday, Samardeep Singh Gill emerged as the roaring champion! Defying all odds and competing fiercely with national record holder Tajinderpal Singh Toor, Samardeep, representing Madhya Pradesh, clinched his second consecutive national title. His winning throw hit an impressive 19.79 metres on the third day of the event, making the crowd go wild. Tajinderpal Singh Toor, the two-time Olympian and record holder, could only manage a 19.32m throw, which won him the silver medal, leaving many surprised and a bit disappointed. Ravi Kumar grabbed the bronze with a respectable 18.23m throw. Samardeep’s performance was on fire! He delivered three powerful throws over the 19m mark, showing solid consistency and strength. His final throw sealed the victory, although he just missed beating his personal best of 19.82m, which he set back in August this year while winning gold at the Inter-state Athletics Championships in Chennai. This National Open Athletics Championship day belonged to Samardeep Singh Gill, who stunned everyone by toppling Tajinderpal Toor and proving he's a force to be reckoned with in Indian shot put!
