Zoho’s Sridhar Vembu Clears Air: Made in India, Data in India, and Global Presence Explained!

October 1, 2025

Zoho co-founder Sridhar Vembu recently stepped up to clear confusion and rumors flying around on social media about the company’s work and data handling. In an eye-opening social media post, Vembu laid out the facts with no room for doubt. First up, Vembu declared loud and clear, “All the products are developed in India.” Yes, you read that right! Zoho’s brain and power come straight from Indian soil. Plus, their global headquarters is in Chennai — not the US or anywhere else. Talking about money matters, Vembu said the company pays taxes in India on all their global income. As he put it, “As a global corporation headquartered in India, we have offices in over 80 countries and have a strong presence in the US, which is a big market for us.” Now, what about your precious data? No worries there! Vembu assured that Indian customers’ data is kept right here in India, specifically in Mumbai, Delhi, and Chennai, with plans to add Odisha soon. Zoho runs over 18 data centres globally, each carefully hosting data in its own country or region. He made it clear, “We are committed to hosting each country's data in their own jurisdiction.” And here’s a spicy nugget for tech fans — Zoho doesn’t use big third-party cloud providers like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud for hosting. Instead, all services run on Zoho's own hardware and software. Their messaging app Arattai is 100% hosted on in-house setups. They do use some cloud services just to speed up network traffic, but no data is stored there. Zoho is also adding more “points of presence” around the world to boost speed and reliability. Why do Zoho's app store listings show a US address? Vembu explained it’s just an old setup from their early days when a US employee registered the developer accounts for testing. The address was never updated but doesn’t change where they actually operate from. Vembu wrapped his message with a fiery slogan — Zoho is “Made in India, Made for the World.” This comes at a time when Union Minister Piyush Goyal praised Zoho’s Arattai app, saying, “Nothing beats the feeling of using a Swadeshi product. So proud to be on Arattai, a Made In India messaging platform that brings India closer.” The buzz continues as Sridhar Vembu recently met with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, joining the government’s push to promote Indian products. So next time you hear something wild about Zoho’s origins or data hosting, remember Sridhar Vembu has set the record straight — Zoho’s heart, brain, and data are proudly Indian!
