BENGALURU: What started as a love story ended in a chilling nightmare on Ullal Main Road this Sunday. A 29-year-old man, Dharmaseelan Ramesh, allegedly killed his 27-year-old wife, Manju P, by stabbing her many times before taking his own life in their rented home. Manju, a nurse working in Bengaluru hospitals, hailed from Kallakurchi district, Tamil Nadu. Dharmaseelan, a mason from Viluppuram, Tamil Nadu, had just returned from Dubai a month ago where he worked before. The couple married in September 2022, spent a year together in Tamil Nadu, then lived apart for some time—Manju in Bengaluru with her parents and Dharmaseelan abroad. After Dharmaseelan returned to India, Manju stayed briefly in Tamil Nadu but soon went back to Bengaluru to continue her nursing job. She rented an apartment on the third floor of a multi-storey building where she lived with her father, Periyaswamy. On Sunday evening, Periyaswamy and his nephew tried to visit Manju but got no response at the locked door. Using a spare key, they entered and were horrified to find Manju lying in a pool of blood with Dharmaseelan hanging next to her. Police said the crime happened that afternoon. Shockingly, Manju's body had roughly 45 injuries—Dharmaseelan slit her throat and stabbed her repeatedly across her body. Authorities suspect he kept stabbing even after her death. Family members shared that Dharmaseelan was suspicious of Manju being too friendly with men at her workplace. This jealousy might have fueled this gruesome act. This tragic murder-suicide highlights the dark side of domestic violence—a silent crisis that needs urgent attention and action. Education, awareness, and stronger laws could help prevent such heartbreaks.
