The Sunridge Bar & Grill has added a dazzling dash of India to its menu, making it the only place in Eastern Oregon to serve Indian dishes (outside a food truck in Ontario). Since May 1, this restaurant inside the Best Western Sunridge Inn is delighting locals with rich flavors from the vast lands of India. Soham Gavankar, the upbeat general manager, shares, “Our vision is to have good Indian food for the people of Baker to experience.” They made sure the menu shines with authentic dishes. But, as he points out, "India is a big country," so they picked some of the best-loved meals. What’s cooking? Favorites like buttery, creamy butter chicken, the spicy-sweet chicken tikka, and fragrant chicken or goat biryani. Don’t miss the chicken shawarma and a lovely range of vegetarian options. Sweet endings include traditional desserts, while drinks like masala chai and mango lassi add cool comfort. If you love fusion, you’re in for a treat. There are chicken wings tossed in special Indian sauces, blending East and West in one bite! Still craving classic American? The grill also has burgers, steaks, pork chops, salads, pasta, seafood, and chicken wings—so everyone’s happy. Sourcing authentic spices isn’t simple in Baker City. Soham takes special trips to Boise, Seattle, and Portland to bring in cinnamon, cardamom, cumin, cloves, curry powder, and more. Don’t worry if you shy away from heat — the spices are kept gentle. As Gavankar says, “We’ve made it the standard spice level — it’s very subtle.” Find this flavor fiesta at 1 Sunridge Lane, just north of Campbell Street near Interstate 84.
