PM Modi to Light Up Mizoram with New Railway Line and Rajdhani Express Launch

September 13, 2025

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to create a wave of excitement in Mizoram this Saturday. He will inaugurate the brand new Bairabi-Sairang broad gauge railway line and launch the first-ever Rajdhani Express train running between Aizawl and Delhi, along with two more trains connecting Aizawl to Kolkata and Guwahati. This electrifying visit marks Modi's second trip to Mizoram since becoming Prime Minister in 2014 — a rare and special occasion for the state! Starting early at 9 am, Modi is scheduled to land at Lengpui Airport and take a helicopter ride to Aizawl's Thuampui helipad. The highlight will be his public address at Lammual, Aizawl by 10 am. Here, he will officially inaugurate the railway line and flag off the fresh train services, promising a brighter, faster travel future for the people. But wait, there’s more! Modi will also open two educational institutions and lay foundation stones for six new projects laid out by the Centre during this vibrant visit. From Mizoram, he’ll head straight to Manipur, marking his first visit after recent ethnic violence there. Security is on full alert to ensure a smooth and safe event. Mizoram’s top police chief, Inspector General of Police H Ramthlengliana, confirmed that all police units are at high alert, supported by Border Security Force and Central Reserve Police Force units. Aizawl itself is buzzing with strict traffic controls and requests to close shops and offices along the PM's route. The amazing Bairabi-Sairang railway line stretches 51.38 km, marking a proud milestone in India’s Act East policy to boost Northeast connectivity and economic growth. For the very first time, Mizoram gets connected directly to the Indian Railways network, linking Aizawl to Assam’s Silchar and beyond. This grand project, costing over Rs. 8,213 crore, started with Modi laying its foundation stone in 2014 and has now blossomed after 10 years of dedicated work. The engineering behind this railway is a marvel! Imagine zipping through 48 tunnels, crossing 55 major and 87 minor bridges. One towering bridge near Sairang station reaches 114 meters high — taller than the famous Qutub Minar! With this mega structure, travel time between Aizawl and Guwahati shrinks from 16 hours by road to just 12 hours by train. And Aizawl to Silchar? Cut down from 7 to 3 hours! This railway won’t just speed up journeys. It will open doors to more jobs, boost tourism, and spark socio-economic growth, fulfilling the dreams of millions in Mizoram. The Northern Frontier Railway gave the green light after a successful safety check in early June, making this weekend a historic celebration. So, get ready to welcome PM Modi as he brings the iron horse to Mizoram, connecting hearts and lands like never before!
