Supreme Court’s Big Stay on Pushpanjali Farms Drama! In a spicy legal twist this Wednesday, the Supreme Court hit the pause button on the Delhi High Court’s order to clear out Pushpanjali Farms in southwest Delhi. This farmhouse isn’t just any property — it’s the home of GMR Group’s big boss, Chairperson G M Rao! A powerful bench of Justices Aravind Kumar and N V Anjaria stepped in, issuing notices to Onkar Infotech and GMR Solar Energy. The reason? An appeal by Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) against the eviction order. The court has scheduled the next legal face-off for October 29. Here's the backstory that’s heating up the courts: On September 1, the Delhi High Court ordered DIAL and GMR Group to vacate Pushpanjali Farms after Onkar Infotech, the new property owner, raised a petition. The original owner, Indus Sor Urja Pvt. Ltd, signed a lease deed in April 2020 with GMR Group and DIAL, letting them use 2.45 acres — including the main house — for a cool Rs 39.6 lakh every month. Later, this rent bumped up to Rs 45.6 lakh. But hold on, in 2024, Onkar Infotech purchased Pushpanjali Farms for a whopping Rs 115 crore! Once Onkar Infotech became the landlord, they shot a 15-day notice to end the lease and regain full property control. But DIAL fired back, claiming the property is agricultural land, so the lease wasn’t properly registered with the authorities under the Delhi Lands (Restrictions on Transfer) Act, 1972, and Delhi Land Reforms Act, 1954. The Delhi High Court, however, wasn’t buying that argument. It ruled: "The land in question, which is being used only for the residential purpose of CMD of DIAL, will not come under the definition of Delhi Land Reforms Act, 1954, as the same is not being used for agricultural or horticultural purposes." The court also declared that since the lease wasn’t registered, it wasn’t solid enough to prove how long it was valid. It noticed that DIAL and Mr Rao were basically paying rent month-to-month. And it nailed down that "The lease deed stood terminated vide Notice on August 7, 2024." The stage is set for another exciting legal showdown on October 29. Will GMR Group hold onto their swanky farmhouse, or will Onkar Infotech reclaim the land? Stay tuned for more twists in this real estate thriller!
