KOLKATA: Hold tight, Kolkata Metro fans! This Durga Puja, the city’s beloved metro will bring the night alive with non-stop Blue Line trains on the busiest festival days. Yes, you heard it right—night-long services on the Blue (North-South) Line from Shahid Khudiram to Dakshineswar on Saptami, Ashtami, and Navami! Officials confirmed these jam-packed routes won’t miss a beat this year, despite challenges. Usually, the Blue Line runs until 9.30 pm, and during Puja, it pushes to 4 am—except during Covid times. The magic? This tradition is back! Plus, the Green Line (East-West) is eyeing a post-midnight run, possibly up to 2 am. That means more time for party-goers and pandal-hoppers to catch their rides. An official shared, "We will follow the same schedule on the Blue Line as in previous years. We are also trying to extend Green Line services beyond midnight, since the entire line—from Sector V to Howrah Maidan—is operational for the first time during the festive season." This year Metro schedules faced some hiccups: Kavi Subhash station has been closed since July 28, the recent 2.6 km extension of the East-West Metro brought busier trains, and the brand-new Yellow Line (Noapara-Airport) corridor launched on August 25. Despite these, the Metro is all set to tackle the Puja rush with extra staff, more ticket counters, and emergency teams ready to jump into action. Last year, with the Green Line split into two parts, Sector V to Sealdah services ran till midnight, while Esplanade to Howrah Maidan stretched till 1.45 am across three key Puja nights. This time, thanks to full line operation, the festival promises smoother rides and longer hours. So, ready to ride the metro under the moonlight this Puja? It’s time to plan your dhunuchi dance and food stops, knowing your ride home won’t leave you stranded. The city’s pulse will beat stronger and longer with Kolkata Metro lighting the way!
