In a dramatic turnaround, US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that the headquarters of the US Space Command will move to Huntsville, Alabama. This reverses the Biden-era decision to keep the HQ in Colorado. Trump called Huntsville "Rocket City" and praised Alabama’s hard fight for the prize. Speaking from the Oval Office, flanked by Alabama Republican leaders, he said: "We had a lot of competition for this and Alabama’s getting it. They fought harder for it than anybody else." The move ends a four-year battle between Alabama and Colorado, and between the Trump and Biden governments, both eager to boost their economies and defense roles. Trump also tackled swirling rumors about his health. He said at the Oval Office, "I was very active over the weekend," calling claims about poor health "fake." But according to a July 17 statement by White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt, Trump has swelling in his legs and bruises on his right hand. His doctor, Sean Barbabella, explains the leg swelling is from "chronic venous insufficiency," common in people over 70. The bruises come from handshakes and aspirin use, part of a "standard cardiovascular prevention regimen." White House officials say Trump manages this condition well. At 79, he is the oldest US president in history. On the trade front, Trump said he will seek a fast Supreme Court ruling to overturn a federal appeals court decision that said he overstepped his power in using emergency economic powers to impose wide tariffs. Trump said, "We’re going to be going to the Supreme Court, we think tomorrow, because we need an early decision." He warned, "If you took away tariffs, we could end up being a third-world country." The ruling keeps some tariffs like steel and aluminum but questions the broad use of emergency powers. Trump's tariffs started at a 10% rate as "reciprocal" responses to other countries. Trump also announced he will send federal law enforcement to Chicago and Baltimore despite pushback from local leaders. When asked about National Guard troops in Chicago, he said, "We’re going in. I didn’t say when." He stressed, "This isn’t a political thing. I have an obligation." Since August 7, over 1,650 arrests have happened in Washington DC thanks to federal troops. Trump praised DC Mayor Muriel Bowser for cooperating but criticized Illinois Governor JB Pritzker who resisted federal help: "If the governor of Illinois would call me up, I would love to do it. Now, we’re going to do it anyway. We have the right to do it." He gave a similar response about Baltimore, saying protecting the country includes protecting that city, despite Maryland Governor Wes Moore and local officials’ opposition. With bold moves and fiery words, Trump continues to shake up politics, defense, trade, and law enforcement with his trademark style.
