Ahmedabad Set for World's Biggest Green-Energy Sports Complex by 2028!

September 2, 2025

AHMEDABAD is gearing up for a green-energy revolution with the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave! By 2028, this colossal 650-acre complex, including the famous Narendra Modi Stadium, will run entirely on clean power. This Rs 5,050 crore dream project is a key move by Gujarat to host the 2036 Olympics, and it will be powered every day by a whopping 30 megawatts of renewable energy. The city’s power bill is no joke – AMC spends Rs 300 crore every year on electricity! So, it’s a huge relief that the Enclave will use solar and wind energy worth up to Rs 300 crore, with tenders for these green power sources coming soon. The AMC’s big plan fits nicely with its goal to cut down electricity costs and boost clean energy as part of the Net Zero 2070 mission. After coordination with the state government, Ahmedabad collector’s office, and development authorities, land acquisition is almost done. Construction of the Sports Enclave will happen in two phases, with tender processes starting before the year ends and a finish line set for December 2028. Currently, only 14% of AMC’s energy is green, but hold on tight – the targets are bold! By December 2025, 43% energy will be renewable, by 2028 it will soar to 90%, and full 100% green energy by 2030. This green leap includes a 20MW wind power plant and a 30MW solar plant – making a total of 50MW from renewables. To drive this energy makeover, AMC created its very first Net Zero Cell, directly supporting India’s aim to become Net Zero by 2070. One jewel in the crown is a 30MW solar project specially made for the SVP Sports Enclave, guaranteeing the whole complex glows with clean energy. September 2024 saw AMC approve a pathbreaking plan for its first ground-mounted solar park! This 120-acre park in Junagadh district will churn out 41.20 million units yearly. That means fantastic savings of Rs 20.60 crore on power bills and cutting down 37,704 tonnes of carbon emissions every year. With such a massive green push, Ahmedabad is setting the stage to become a shining superstar in sustainable sports and energy. Ready or not, the future looks bright and clean for this sparkling city!
