Hitachi Energy Pumps Rs 300 Crore to Double Mysuru Plant's Transformer Insulation Output

September 2, 2025

Hitachi Energy has taken an exciting step by investing Rs 300 crore to expand its Mysuru plant. The goal? To double the production of top-notch Extra High Voltage (EHV) pressboard and laminated boards – the crucial materials used to insulate transformers. This big move is part of a larger Rs 2,000 crore investment plan that will roll out over the next four to five years. Why this investment now? The company says there's a soaring global demand for high-quality transformer insulation materials, which are essential for energy grids and renewable energy setups. An impressive feature of this upgrade is the replacement of the old fossil fuel boiler at the Mysuru site. This means the plant will become an ultra-low carbon facility, making it eco-friendly and supporting a greener future. The entire expansion is expected to wrap up by mid-2027. N Venu, Managing Director & CEO of Hitachi Energy India, said, "With this expansion, we’re proud to support India’s growing grid and renewable energy integration – while strengthening the local energy manufacturing ecosystem for a more sustainable future." His words highlight how this investment is not just about business but also about India's energy future and environmental care. Hitachi Energy's plan tackles the big problem of transformer and component shortages. Increasing the insulation material supply will help India and also export to key markets like the U.A.E., Oman, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Indonesia, South Korea, and South Africa. Helmut Bockshammer, Global Product Group Manager for Transformers Insulation and Components at Hitachi Energy, added, "This expansion strengthens our commitment to India’s energy future. By localizing pressboard production, we’re securing supply chains, boosting reliability, and supporting the shift to renewables." In simple words, Hitachi Energy’s investment is a win-win: it fuels India's energy growth, helps the world shift towards greener power, and makes sure transformers get the best insulation they need. Keep your eyes on Mysuru – it’s becoming a hotbed for cutting-edge, clean energy manufacturing!
