Get ready, golf fans! Keegan Bradley, the U.S. Ryder Cup captain, has spoken highly about Scottie Scheffler, calling him an easy and obvious choice for Team USA at the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black, New York. On August 27, 2025, at the PGA of America headquarters in Frisco, Texas, Bradley showered praise on Scheffler not just for his top-class golf but also for his leadership and great character. Scottie Scheffler, already confirmed as an automatic qualifier, is set to make his third Ryder Cup appearance—after thrilling performances in 2021 and 2023. Bradley shared his excitement during the press conference, saying, “There’s so much to say about Scottie Scheffler. He had 37,000 points, 10% of the points given to our Ryder Cup team. He’s a natural-born leader, but more importantly, I’m more impressed with the person that he is than the player, and he’s a pretty incredible player. So, great asset to have in our team, and, you know, really proud of the way he stepped up and has been a leader this team.” The 29-year-old Scheffler has been on fire this season, winning five tournaments including the big ones – the PGA Championship and The Open Championship. He’s not just world No. 1 in Official World Golf Ranking but also tops the Ryder Cup points list and Data Golf rankings. Plus, he shines at No. 4 in the FedEx Cup standings. When it comes to Ryder Cup records, Scheffler has collected 3.5 points from his matches, winning half of them, and stands proudly at No. 49 on the all-time U.S. points list ahead of Bethpage Black. Bradley also announced the other automatic qualifiers: JJ Spaun, Xander Schauffele, Russell Henley, Harris English, and Bryson DeChambeau. The six captain’s picks are none other than Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Ben Griffin, Cameron Young, Patrick Cantlay, and Sam Burns. But the excitement didn’t stop there! Bradley shared a touching personal story about his connection with golf legend Arnold Palmer, who captained Team USA back in 1963. Speaking on SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio, Bradley described an emotional moment at East Lake Golf Club, Atlanta, where he saw Palmer’s old Ryder Cup bags and gear. He said, “That was surreal. It was really, really strange staring at all of his stuff from the 1963 Ryder Cup and trying to wrap my head around how I’ve gotten to this point to where I’m like, it’s me and him are, you know, doing this.” He also expressed a wish to talk to Palmer. “I’ve said this a million times, I wish I could pick up the phone and call him and talk to him, but obviously that’s not possible. But I have felt a real sort of connection with Arnold Palmer through this whole process… what an incredible experience it was,” said Bradley. Fans hoped Bradley might follow Palmer’s footsteps as a playing captain—the first since 1963! Even then-President Donald Trump suggested he should play and lead at Bethpage Black. However, Bradley made the tough call not to play, focusing fully on his captaincy. After announcing Sam Burns as his last wildcard pick, Bradley admitted it was heartbreaking but the right decision to put the team first. With leaders like Scottie Scheffler and a strong team led by Bradley, the 2025 Ryder Cup is shaping up to be a gripping showdown. Team USA’s hopes are high, and the stage is set at the iconic Bethpage Black to witness some thrilling golf action!
