Get ready for some spicy diplomacy news! China’s Foreign Ministry spiced things up this Friday by revealing how a powerful meeting last October in Kazan, Russia, between President Xi Jinping and India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, sparked a fresh start in their rocky relationship. Why does this matter? Because both countries agree that better friendship is good for everyone! China’s official statement said, “The improvement of Sino-Indian relations is a common interest for both countries, as well as the result of joint efforts by both sides.” They denied any secret talks; it was all open and normal communication. Things heated up quietly in March when Beijing reached out to New Delhi to feel out the mood for better ties. Xi even penned a letter to India’s President Droupadi Murmu, worried about deals with the US that might hurt China’s interests, an insider shared with Bloomberg News. This shows just how serious China is about warming ties. The Foreign Ministry also made it crystal clear that the Kazan meeting helped restart the connection. They said, “The competent authorities of China and India have earnestly implemented the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, promoted the resumption of institutional dialogue and conducted normal exchanges.” Since then, efforts stepped up to end the border standoff that caused so much tension. And guess what? Modi is heading to China this weekend — his first trip there in seven years! This move is partly because both countries have felt the sting of US President Donald Trump’s trade war — India just got slammed with 50% tariffs on exports to the US this week! No wonder China’s Foreign Ministry said, “China stands ready to work with India to view and handle China-India relations from a strategic and long-term perspective.” Looking ahead, Modi and Xi plan to meet again during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit happening from August 31 to September 1 in Tianjin. Modi is pumped about working with SCO members to tackle shared challenges and boost regional cooperation. And don’t miss it — he’s also scheduled for a talk with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the summit. Adding to the excitement, China’s state-run Global Times newspaper wrote an eye-catching editorial on Friday, saying the growing friendship between Beijing and New Delhi is a smart move. It called them the "twin engines" of Asia’s economy and key leaders pushing the world toward "greater democracy and fairness" through platforms like SCO, BRICS, and the G20. So, India and China are cooking up a fresh batch of diplomatic ties, with talks, teamwork, and trade on the menu. Will this new friendship fly high? The world is watching!
