Prime Minister Narendra Modi set the stage on fire by flagging off Maruti Suzuki’s very first electric car, the e-Vitara, from the Hansalpur manufacturing plant in Gujarat. This is not just any launch — it marks the start of exports to 100 countries, including big players like Japan and Europe! The excitement doesn’t stop here. The Prime Minister also inaugurated the production of lithium-ion battery cells, a crucial step towards strong hybrid electric vehicles, at the very same facility. The man behind Suzuki Motor Corporation, Toshihiro Suzuki, proudly shared, “This Gujarat facility, serving customers across India and global markets, will shortly become one of the world’s largest automobile manufacturing hubs, with a planned capacity of one million units.” He added that the e-Vitara will be their first Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) produced here, making Gujarat the global production hub for this shiny new model. This is a massive milestone because Suzuki Group has already invested over ₹1 lakh crore in India, creating a whopping 11 lakh direct jobs along the way! And the story gets better— the first batch of e-Vitara electric cars made exclusively at Suzuki Motor Gujarat (SMG) will be shipped from Pipavav port to top European countries like the UK, Germany, Norway, France, Denmark, and many more. That’s not all! Suzuki is also proud to announce India’s first Lithium-ion battery and cell production with electrode-level localisation at the Toshiba-Denso-Suzuki plant. This means almost everything except raw materials and some semiconductor parts come from India itself—a salute to Atmanirbhar Bharat. Toshihiro Suzuki revealed, “We will use a multi-powertrain strategy including Electric, Strong Hybrid, ethanol flex fuel, and compressed biogas, to achieve carbon neutrality and climate change goals. Suzuki will invest over ₹70,000 crore, over the next 5 to 6 years.” This plan not only boosts India’s green energy ambitions but also cements Gujarat’s spot as a game-changer in the global automobile arena. So, buckle up! The all-electric e-Vitara from Maruti Suzuki is ready to take India’s electric vehicle dreams to the fast lane, reaching far-off countries while driving sustainable change at home.
