On Sunday afternoon, Delhi enjoyed a refreshing dose of moderate rain that brought some welcome relief but also caused traffic jams in busy areas! According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), places like Preet Vihar, Rajeev Chowk, ITO, Jafarpur, India Gate, Akshardham, Safdarjung, and Lodi Road saw lovely showers. Not just these, Nehru Stadium, Defence Colony, Lajpat Nagar, Kalkaji, Ayanagar, and Deramandi also got wet under the rainy skies. The rain was powerful enough to slow down vehicles, especially around ITO, Lajpat Nagar, and Connaught Place, where traffic snarls turned into a driver’s nightmare. Earlier that day, Delhi recorded a hefty 36 millimeters of rain in the 24 hours ending at 8:30 am. As for the weather, the minimum temperature dipped to 23.4 degrees Celsius, which is three notches below the usual average for this season, while the maximum temperature is expected to stay around a comfortable 31 degrees Celsius, noted the IMD. The city’s atmosphere was thick with 97% humidity at 8:30 am. The IMD did not hold back on caution and issued a yellow alert for Delhi. They forecast more light to moderate rain paired with thunderstorms in the coming hours, so keep your umbrellas handy! On a brighter note, Delhi's air quality stayed in the 'satisfactory' range, with the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) reporting an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 63 at 4 pm. The CPCB rates AQI from 'good' (0-50) to 'severe' (401-500), so Delhi's air is just fine for now. So, Delhiites, while the rain has brought cheer and cooler temps, it's also time to brace for some thunderstorms and manage the traffic chaos around town!
