In a shocking moment during the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ preseason game on August 23, rookie safety Shilo Sanders punched Bills’ tight end Zach Davidson. The clash happened in the second quarter and led to Sanders being immediately ejected from the game. This big mistake cost him his spot on the Tampa Bay roster. But here’s the twist – the team actually liked the son of Hall of Fame cornerback Deion Sanders a lot! According to reports from The Sporting News and Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, the Buccaneers had good words to say about Sanders. Florio explained, “We’re told that the Buccaneers enjoyed having Shilo in the building, viewing the son of Deion Sanders as a good kid, who was at all times respectful to everyone. Shilo was also immediately remorseful following the incident that disqualified him from the second quarter of the game against the Bills.” The team’s head coach Todd Bowles also shared his mixed feelings. He praised Sanders during the preseason but strongly criticized the punch after the incident. Bowles told the New York Post, “You can’t throw punches in this league, that’s inexcusable. They’re going to get you every time. You’ve got to grow from that.” After being waived, there is a chance Sanders could join the Buccaneers’ practice squad once he clears waivers. Florio raised the big question: “Whether he’s good enough to compete and to play at the NFL level.” Adding more layers to this story, old allegations about Sanders’ past violence are circulating again. When Sanders was 15, a former security guard in Dallas accused him of a violent assault in 2015, which left him with serious long-term injuries. Also, Sanders was said to have slapped his teammate Cormani McClain previously. Despite these dark clouds, the Buccaneers still seem to see a respectful and young player who made a big mistake. Will Sanders bounce back and prove himself in the NFL? Only time will tell!
