Kolkata is shaken as the police have taken a strong stand against a horrifying crime. On Saturday, a massive 650-page chargesheet was filed in the Kasba law college gang-rape case. This case, which sent ripples of anger across the city, involves a 24-year-old female law student who was allegedly gang-raped inside the college on June 25. The trouble began when the survivor bravely filed a complaint on June 26, sparking swift police action. Following the complaint, police arrested four people connected to the college. Among them is Monojit Mishra, a temporary staff member and former student, along with current students Promit Mukherjee and Zaib Ahmed. Later, Pinaki Banerjee, a security guard at the college, was also taken into custody. An official revealed, "The chargesheet was submitted against all the four. The chargesheet runs up to more than 650 pages and has accounts of around 80 witnesses." This means the police went deep into the details, collecting plenty of witness testimonies to build a strong case. The accused face serious legal sections. Besides Section 70(1) of the BNS, dealing with gang rape, they are charged under sections 118 for causing hurt with dangerous weapons, 140(3) covering kidnapping, and 140(4) for subjecting the victim to grievous hurt, slavery, or unnatural lust. Adding more fire to the case, the survivor stated that two of the accused, Mukherjee and Ahmed, filmed the horrific act on their phones. Police later recovered these video clips from seized mobile phones, which matched the survivor’s statements perfectly. "Section under the IT Act 2000 was also included in the chargesheet," said an official, signaling the use of technology laws to tackle this brutal crime. This case is a grim reminder of the dangers some students face, but the swift police action and comprehensive chargesheet show that justice is on its way. Kolkata waits for the next steps in this crucial and heart-wrenching legal battle.
