Mini bus services, long awaited and much needed, are back and have become a true blessing for those using the MEMU trains at Periyanaickenpalayam railway station. These cute mini buses have saved passengers a pretty penny by reducing their dependence on costly autorickshaws. The station and the town’s bus stand are about 1.5 km apart. While some brave souls walk this stretch, many others either park their two-wheelers or hire autorickshaws, especially during peak morning and evening hours. But now, the mini bus service has changed the game! Driver Hari Vignesh shares the smooth schedule: "The MEMU train towards Coimbatore leaves Mettupalayam, reaching Periyanaickenpalayam station around 8:38 a.m. Our mini bus starts its trip from Kamanaickenpalayam at 8 a.m., passes Veerapandi Pirivu at 8:20 a.m., then arrives at Periyanaickenpalayam by 8:25 a.m., reaching the railway station 10 minutes before the train arrives." Return trips from Coimbatore also fit perfectly with passenger needs, with a mini bus available around 6 p.m. This timing ensures a hassle-free ride back home after a busy day. This service isn’t just convenient; it’s affordable too! "The mini buses are fulfilling the needs of the train passengers quite effectively on the price-front as well. A single trip costs the passengers only ₹5," says M. Jaikumar, president of the Periyanaickenpalayam Railway Passengers’ Association. After the COVID lockdown, bus services to the railway station were discontinued, leaving passengers struggling. The association had been pushing Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation to resume buses, and their efforts have paid off. Now, passengers can enjoy cheap, reliable, and timely transport that truly supports their daily commute. Thanks to the mini bus magic, traveling to and from the railway station has never been easier or more budget-friendly for the people of Periyanaickenpalayam and Veerapandi Pirivu!
