JAMMU: Nature showed its fierce side as heavy rains triggered flash floods, causing heartbreak in Jammu’s Rajouri and Poonch districts. After an intense hunt, rescuers found the bodies of two victims, including a young girl, lost to the raging waters. The search began when 20-year-old Atif Hussain Shah disappeared while trying to cross a stream at Mubarakhpura Keriyan village in Rajouri. Despite the strong currents, brave teams from SDRF, police, and local volunteers launched a massive search. Drones joined the effort, scanning the wild river. Finally, Atif’s body was discovered at Dalogra, about 13 km downstream in the Munawar Tawi. SDRF DSP Jabeen Akhter told the media, "The body was fished out, and handed over to the family after completion of medico-legal proceedings." Heartbreak struck again in Poonch when seven-year-old Aysia Kauser was found in the Suran River’s Shindra area. She had been swept away by fast currents near Dhoke Umrah, Bankasi just a day before. Rescue teams worked hard and recovered her body after strenuous efforts. But there was a silver lining amid the stormy scenes. A sudden rise in water levels on the Poonch River trapped several people on a river island. The Army, acting fast and fearlessly, sprang into action. Jammu-based Defence PRO, Lt Col Suneel Bartwal, said, "Responding immediately to the distress call, a specially trained Army rescue team was mobilised and deployed with speed and precision. Despite the challenging terrain and strong water currents, the team ensured the safe evacuation of all seven trapped individuals, including women and children." Authorities have urged everyone in the border districts to stay alert and take all safety measures as bad weather continues to challenge the region. This dramatic episode reminds us how powerful nature can be and how brave human hearts stand against it.
