In a shocking incident from West Bengal, a 24-year-old nurse was found dead inside a nursing home in Hooghly district late Wednesday night. The family suspects foul play and believes she was murdered and then hanged. Distrusting the state police, they are demanding a thorough investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The autopsy was performed on Saturday at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Kalyani. Officials confirmed that the body was taken there after the family expressed their wishes. Earlier, police had moved the body from a hospital in Hooghly to the Calcutta Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata for the postmortem. However, the family insisted the autopsy be done at either the Command Hospital in Kolkata or AIIMS Kalyani. The woman’s father made powerful remarks to the media: "We believe that my daughter was murdered and then hanged. We have no faith in the state police. We want a CBI probe into the case." Following the complaint, police registered a murder case and have arrested two suspects. Despite this, the family remains unsatisfied, putting pressure on authorities for a CBI probe. Ambika Roy, a BJP legislator from Kalyani, voiced the family's concerns saying, "The family has lost faith in the state police and has demanded a CBI probe. We want a CBI probe." The body was handed back to the family later in the afternoon on Saturday, as the town holds its breath, waiting for justice. This tragic event has cast a dark shadow over Hooghly and has stirred demands for transparency and strict investigation.
