Karnataka Launches Automated Mutation System to Speed Up Land Record Updates
February 5, 2026
Karnataka Revenue Department has begun a new automated mutation system to update land records faster. This change reduces manual work and limits official discretion in property details updates. Revenue Commissioner Meena Nagaraj said mutations will clear automatically if no objections come during the notice period. For sale and gift deeds, the notice is seven days; for others, it is 15 days. The system will approve registrable transactions automatically on the eighth night and non-registrable ones on the sixteenth night without needing physical approval or thumb impressions from revenue inspectors. Officials can still raise objections within the notice period. This auto-mutation is currently being tested in Mandya and Maddur taluks. Depending on the results, the department will expand the system across Karnataka.
