The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) in Pathanamthitta has arrested K.R. Sunilkumar Potti. He is a former priest and Devaswom employee. The arrest happened on Wednesday. He is accused in a big financial fraud case during the 2025 Sabarimala Mandala-Makaravilakku season. Sunilkumar hails from Aroor in Alappuzha. Earlier, he served as a priest at the Chaliyekkara Bhadrakali temple under the Punalur group of the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB). During the pilgrimage season, the Board deputed him to manage the sale of 'Aadiya Shishtam Neyyu'—ghee left after offerings—at Sabarimala. The fraud case arose after the Vigilance team found irregularities in the sale of ghee packets during that festival period. The devaswom staff responsible manipulated records of stock sold. They also failed to transfer all money received to the Board's account. This led to a loss of ₹36,24,400 for the Devaswom Board. The scam was discovered when authorities noted inconsistencies between actual ghee stock sold and the income recorded. After registering a case, the Pathanamthitta Vigilance unit arrested Sunilkumar Potti. He will be presented before the Vigilance Court in Kollam.
