A 32-year-old man named Shijo Puthenveetil was killed by a wild elephant on Tuesday evening near Mayiladumpara, close to Peechi in Thrissur, Kerala. Shijo had gone to a nearby forest to graze his goats but did not return. When the goats came home without him, locals started searching. They found Shijo's body during the search operation. He worked as a temporary employee at the Kerala Water Authority in Peechi. His body was taken to the hospital around 10 pm. The attack happened in a forest area under Pattikkad Forest Station. Following the incident, angry residents blocked a forest department vehicle, causing brief tension. Last year, another person from Thamaravellachal died in a similar elephant attack inside Peechi Wildlife Sanctuary. This shows growing worries about human-wildlife conflicts in the area.
