A 27-year-old man from Melbourne died at a ski resort in Japan after suffering a heart attack. The man collapsed while skiing with six others in Niseko, Hokkaido, on Monday. He was working at a local hotel during his stay. "There was no accident, collision or fall of any kind," said a spokesperson from a local ski lodge. Four skiers saw him collapse and immediately began CPR. The fire department took him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Local police are investigating the incident, according to UHB news. Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is helping the family and expressed their condolences. This death happened just three days after Queensland snowboarder Brooke Day, 22, died in a ski lift accident at Tsugaike resort in Nagano. The resort promised full cooperation and safety improvements. Japan has seen record snowfall lately, causing 30 deaths and over 100 serious injuries since January 20. Niseko’s Annupuri ski resort reported 290 cm of snow on the mountain top and 200 cm at its base on Wednesday. The avalanche bulletin warned visitors to avoid skiing off-piste. Heavy snowfall also caused train delays, highway closures, and briefly shut down Hokkaido’s main airport, trapping hundreds of passengers. With Reuters reporting.
