The state capital saw tense and violent scenes on Tuesday during a protest march by Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) against the Sabarimala gold misappropriation case. The protesters marched to the Assembly, but clashes erupted when they tried to breach police barricades near the complex. Police used water cannons multiple times and later fired tear gas shells to disperse the crowd. Traffic came to a halt for nearly an hour as the protest turned chaotic. Five activists, including Yuva Morcha State president V. Manuprasad, were injured or felt unwell and were taken to the General Hospital. Protesters then blocked M.G. Road, accusing police of delaying the injured activists’ hospital transport. BJP national executive member P.K. Krishnadas addressed the crowd, saying the ruling political leadership acted like a "criminal gang" and promised stronger protests on the Sabarimala issue. He accused the Pinarayi Vijayan government of a "fascist mindset" trying to crush democratic protests. Krishnadas also charged CPI(M) and Congress leaders with large-scale corruption involving Sabarimala temple gold theft. "Leaders from both parties were involved in the alleged theft of gold offerings at the temple," he said.
