Kerala Startup Mission Boosts Over 7800 Startups Including Robotics and Drone Tech
February 2, 2026
Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) has supercharged entrepreneurship in Kerala since 2016. Starting with 300 startups, the number now exceeds 7800 across many fields, thanks to strong support in funding, mentorship, and infrastructure. Four friends from MES College of Engineering started Genrobotics, creating robots that replace manual scavengers in India. They received a ₹10 lakh grant from KSUM, helping them build over 400 robots supplied to 19 states and exported overseas. Genrobotics also develops rehabilitation and humanoid robots, and works on advanced space tech in Dubai. Another success story is Fuselage Innovations, a drone tech company led by Devika Chandrasekharan. Supported by KSUM grants and connections, Fuselage has sold 300 drones mainly to farmers across India and expanded into Canada, UK, Europe, and Australia. Unique World Robotics India, focusing on AI and STEM education, was helped by KSUM with mentorship and sponsorship. They recently gifted a robot to astronaut Sunita Williams and plan expansions into Qatar and Kuwait. KSUM provided ₹32.31 crore in innovation grants and ₹12 crore in seed loans. Statewide, Kerala startups attracted about ₹6,000 crore investment. Initiatives like Seeding Kerala and Fund of Funds connect startups with venture capital; semiconductor startup Netrasemi raised ₹118 crore. Government as a Market Place (GAAM) allows startups to sell directly to departments. Actor-producer Nivin Pauly co-launched CRAV, an animation IP firm, with KSUM support for incubation and growth. KSUM also operates coworking spaces, fab labs including a world-class Super Fab Lab with MIT, and multiple incubators. Looking ahead, KSUM plans startup hubs abroad and new spaces in Kerala to foster innovation and entrepreneurship. CEO Anoop Ambika highlights the cultural shift from job-seeking to business-building among Kerala’s youth. KSUM continues to empower women, marginalized groups, and retirees to join the startup boom.
