Property Crimes Drop 17% in Nilgiris in 2025, Police Crack More Cases

Property crimes like theft, robbery, and burglary dropped by 17% in Nilgiris in 2025, said the district police. Cases went down from 71 in 2024 to 59 last year. The police solved 85% of these crimes and got convictions in 33 cases.
All 168 reports of physical assault were solved by the Nilgiris police. Traffic law enforcement was strong with 1,67,332 cases registered. Among these, over 1,200 involved driving under the influence of alcohol, and more than 1,300 were for dangerous or negligent driving. Five people were booked under the Goondas Act in 2025.
Nilgiris Superintendent of Police N.S. Nisha praised new projects like “Oorai Thedi Kavalan,” “Project Agni,” “Police Akka,” “Cyber Pallikoodam,” and “Pink Patrol.” She said these initiatives helped reduce crime, improve detection, and support the community.
The police installed 72 new cameras in key areas such as Masinagudi, Naduvattam, Ooty Town, and Ooty Rural limits. They also monitor 3,210 CCTV cameras in public spots and 833 in residential zones to prevent and catch crimes quickly.
