For the first time in seven years, sakura or Japan’s famous cherry blossoms have bloomed at the Baguio Country Club (BCC) in northern Philippines. The delicate pink flowers are a rare and beautiful scene that locals and tourists are rushing to see. Baguio City, known as the summer capital of the Philippines, offers cool temperatures that help these trees bloom despite the country’s tropical climate. The sakura trees were donated by Japanese nationals Shinji Okomora, Shingeru Tsunashima, and BCC member Paz Suzuki in 2018 and 2019. After years of care and the right weather, the trees finally blossomed at the end of January, adding a fresh floral chapter to Baguio’s flower season.
