February 1, 2026
A 62-year-old woman from Dharwad, Shanta Ramesh Kashinkunti, has accused theft of gold and diamond jewellery worth several lakhs from her checked baggage on a flight to the USA via Abu Dhabi. She travelled with Akasa Airlines on November 15, 2025, from Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), with a transit stop at Abu Dhabi. Her baggage contained about 790 grams of gold, diamond ornaments worth ₹8 lakh, medicines valued at ₹20,000, and USD 200 cash. Although her suitcase had no visible damage, when she checked her baggage at Abu Dhabi airport, the valuables were missing. She reported the theft immediately to Abu Dhabi airport authorities and Akasa Airlines customer service but received no clear response. After returning to India on January 7, 2026, she filed a formal police complaint on January 31. She has urged officials to check CCTV footage, question airport security at Bengaluru, and coordinate with Abu Dhabi authorities to find the missing items. The airport police have registered a theft case against unknown persons and started an investigation.
