Tamil Nadu Sets Rules for Registration of Anand Marriages in 2026
February 1, 2026
The Tamil Nadu government has notified the Tamil Nadu Anand Marriage Registration Rules, 2026. These rules explain how Anand Marriages are to be registered in the state. Anand Marriages follow Sikh marriage ceremonies called Anand Karaj. The District Registrar of Anand Marriages will handle registration in their area. Sub-Registrars also act as Registrars of Anand Marriages. Couples must register their Anand Marriage within 30 days where the marriage was performed. They need to submit a form with documents proving the ceremony and witness signatures. If the marriage is not registered in 30 days, couples can still register later. The Registrar will check all documents. After verification, the Registrar will record the marriage details and issue a Certificate of Anand Marriage in Form-IV. If there is doubt that the marriage was not done as per Anand Marriage ceremonies, the couple may be asked for more information. The rules state, “The Registrar may, for the reasons to be recorded in writing, refuse the registration of marriage, if the parties fail to comply with the directions issued by him.” These new procedures were officially published on February 1, 2026.
