Florida Nurse Refuses Anaesthesia to MAGA Patients, Faces Backlash and Suspension Calls
January 27, 2026
A Florida nurse is at the center of a social media storm after saying he will not give anaesthesia to MAGA supporters during any surgeries or procedures. Erik Martindale, a registered nurse and University of Miami graduate, posted on Facebook, "I will not perform anaesthesia for any surgeries or procedures for MAGA. It is my right, it is my ethical oath and I stand behind my education. I own all of my businesses and I can refuse anyone!" The post showed a close-up of him in his nurse uniform. The message went viral and triggered massive backlash online. Medical experts said nurses must treat all patients regardless of their political views. Many called for Martindale’s suspension. One user wrote on X, "He needs to lose his job and license." Martindale later deleted the post and claimed his Facebook and Instagram accounts were hacked. This controversy follows a similar incident where another Florida nurse, Lexie Lawler, was fired after posting a TikTok wishing harm on White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. Both cases highlight rising tensions around politics and healthcare in the US. Meanwhile, protests continue in Minnesota against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), following deadly shootings involving ICE agents and harsh actions against protesters. State governor Tim Walz has also called for ICE’s removal amid growing unrest.
