Indian-origin man kills wife and three relatives in Georgia domestic shooting

Early Friday morning in Georgia, US, an Indian-origin man, Vijay Kumar, allegedly killed his wife and three relatives in a shocking domestic shooting. The incident happened after a heated argument. Kumar’s three children hid in a closet as shots rang out. One child called 911 during the chaos. Police arrived to find four adults fatally shot but the children unharmed. The Gwinnett County police said the case is domestic in nature. Vijay Kumar, 51, was arrested and charged with four counts of aggravated assault and four counts of felony murder. He also faces four counts of malice murder, one count of first-degree cruelty to children, and two counts of third-degree cruelty to children. The victims are identified as Kumar’s wife Meenu Dogra, 43, and relatives Gourav Cumar, 33, Nidhi Chander, 37, and Harish Chander, 38. The shooting occurred at a home on Brook Ivy Court in Lawrenceville, where the relatives lived with two juveniles. Kumar and Dogra had an argument at their Atlanta home before going to the relative’s house with their 12-year-old child. The child made the emergency call. Authorities have not yet revealed what caused the argument or the motive behind the shooting. The Consulate General of India in Atlanta expressed deep grief and confirmed offering all possible help to the bereaved family. The consulate stated, “We are deeply grieved by a tragic shooting incident linked to an alleged family dispute, in which an Indian national was among the victims. The alleged shooter has been arrested, and all possible assistance is being extended to the bereaved family.”
