Germany Arrests Suspected Hamas Member Over Attack Plot on Jewish and Israeli Targets
January 25, 2026
German police arrested a Lebanese man named "Mohammad S" at Berlin’s Brandenburg Airport after he arrived from Beirut on Friday evening. Authorities suspect him of being a Hamas member plotting attacks in Europe. Federal prosecutors stated he helped obtain 300 rounds of ammunition in August 2025 and was involved in a planned attack on Jewish and Israeli institutions. The suspect will be brought before a federal judge to decide on pretrial detention. Hamas, considered a terrorist group by the US, UK, Israel, and others, ruled Gaza and carried out deadly attacks on Israel in October 2023, killing about 1,200 people and taking more than 250 hostages. Since then, over 70,000 Palestinians have died in Israeli actions according to Hamas's health ministry. German police said "Mohammad S" worked with "Abed Al G", one of three alleged Hamas members arrested last October while meeting for a weapons handover in Berlin. Among those three suspects, two were German nationals and one Lebanese. Police also searched Leipzig and Oberhausen during the arrests. In November, German authorities arrested another suspected Hamas member, also Lebanese, near the Czech border.
