Kerala Launches Community Health Drive to Fight Youth Lifestyle Diseases
January 25, 2026
Kerala's youth face rising lifestyle diseases like heart attacks and cancer, especially between ages 20 and 40. To combat this, a health campaign called 'Arogyam, Anandam - Vibe for Wellness' was launched at Azhankal Walkway, Karamana on Saturday. U. Nandakumar, chairman of CAPSULE Kerala, led the event. He said the campaign is based on Finland’s successful public health programs that reduced heart disease through community diet and lifestyle changes. “The goal is to move this beyond a local initiative. Given the positive response in Thiruvananthapuram, we plan to expand this campaign across Kerala,” Nandakumar said. The next phase will begin next month. The campaign also included interactive sessions addressing popular diets and women’s health. Student volunteers helped participants calculate meal calories and stressed the importance of protein-rich diets. The Azhankal Walkway Protection Group announced free blood sugar and blood pressure tests every Saturday at the walkway. They emphasized combining exercise with healthy eating to fight Kerala’s changing disease profile.
