GUWAHATI: The Centre has proposed a ₹213.24 crore ropeway project to link Kamakhya Railway Station with Kamakhya Temple on Nilachal Hill. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma thanked Minister Nitin Gadkari for the plan, calling it “Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi” (Heritage with Development). The ropeway will be 1.43 kilometres long and reduce travel time from at least 20 minutes to just six. It will have 18 modern gondolas carrying 16,500 passengers, making travel safer and smoother. Designed as a green, eco-friendly transport option, it aims to ease traffic on Nilachal Hill road and lower environmental impact. The project will boost tourism, create local jobs, and improve the experience for devotees and tourists alike.
