Surat Rural Police arrested seven people linked to the collapse of a new water tank in Tadkeshwar village on January 21, 2026. The tank, 15 metres high and costing ₹21 crore, collapsed on Monday evening while being tested with nine lakh litres of water. Three labourers—Anguri Aad, Anjali Aad, and Kalita Vachaliya—were injured. The arrested include contractors from Jayanti Super Construction, Mehsana, staff from PMC agency Mars Planning Pvt. Ltd. Ahmedabad, as well as the site engineer and executive engineer of the Water Supply Department. Police are also trying to arrest Deputy Executive Engineer Jay Chaudhari. The Gujarat Water Supply and Sewerage Board filed a complaint at Mandvi Police Station. Charges include Criminal Breach of Trust, Cheating, and Endangering Life under sections 316, 318, and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Names of those arrested are Babu Patel, Jasmin Patel, Dhaval Patel, Jayanti Patel, Babu Manilal Patel, Jigar Prajapati, and Ankit Garasiya. At a Cabinet meeting in Gandhinagar, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel took serious note of the accident. According to State Minister Jitu Vaghani, the Chief Minister said, "Chief Minister Patel gave strict instructions to punish all the officials and contractors for the lapses. He also instructed not to compromise on quality in any construction project."
