On January 21, rescuers retrieved the body of Neelabai, 50, from the Bhadra canal near Kudligere in Shivamogga district, Karnataka. Earlier, on January 19, her son Ravi Kumar, 22, was found dead in the same canal. Neelabai's daughter Shwetha and son-in-law Parashuram remain missing. The four had gone missing since January 18 after leaving their home at Arebilachi on two bikes to wash clothes near the canal. It is suspected that one person initially drowned, prompting the others to jump in to help, resulting in all four getting caught in the water. Local police, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and Fire and Emergency Services staff have been searching since the evening of January 18. Expert swimmers are involved. So far, two bodies have been recovered, and the search for the remaining two continues.
