Telangana Delays Rs. 6,000 Per Acre Payment to Farmers Due to Survey Delay
January 20, 2026
The Telangana Government has not yet decided when to credit Rs. 6,000 per acre for farmers under the Rythu Bharosa scheme for the Rabi season. Usually, payments reach farmers by Sankranti, but this year the survey of agricultural lands is not finished. This survey is important to find out exactly which lands are cultivated. The government has set aside nearly Rs. 9,000 crore to support over 70 lakh farmers working on 1.43 crore acres. Payment will be made after completing the survey. Earlier, Rs. 9,000 crore was distributed within 10 days during the last Kharif season. This investment support is given twice a year to farmers.
Officials said the survey aims to stop misuse of funds given to fallow lands or areas taken over for projects like highways. "We are firm that only lands under cultivation are covered so that genuine farmers are benefitted," said M. Kodanda Reddy, Farmers Commission chairman. The government had wanted to use satellite images but dropped the idea due to possible errors. Agricultural Extension Officers now check lands and prepare a report on genuine farmers. The government may also involve two model farmers from each village to help identify cultivated lands, without payment. Officials expect a decision soon on the payment date for farmers.
