AP Launches Free Animal Health Camps in Villages from Jan 19 to 31

Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Minister K. Atchannaidu announced free animal health camps across all villages in the State from January 19 to 31. This program aims to improve animal health, enhance productivity, prevent diseases, and cut costs for farmers.
The initiative was launched at Nidamanuru village in Vijayawada Rural Mandal, with Government Whip and Gannavaram MLA Yarlagadda Venkat Rao in attendance. Livestock owners will get free veterinary services including vaccinations, fertility treatments, deworming medicine, diagnostic tests, and education on scientific animal care.
Minister Atchannaidu said, "Livestock is a primary source of income for rural households. The government is committed to quality services with a strong focus on preventive healthcare."
Andhra Pradesh is nationally known for Ongole and Punganur cattle, Godavari buffaloes, Nellore and Macherla sheep, and Aseel poultry. The State has 10.82 million cattle and buffaloes, 23.15 million sheep and goats, and 107.86 million poultry supporting 2.5 million farmer families.
The livestock sector adds ₹1,67,000 crore to the State economy, making up 10.26% of its Gross Value Added. Andhra Pradesh ranks first in egg production, fourth in meat, and seventh in milk production nationally.
The government supports livestock development with schemes such as 58,440 cattle sheds, livestock insurance at 85% subsidy, and sexed semen for goats and sheep at 50% subsidy. Minister Atchannaidu said, "Livestock development, especially to strengthen women’s livelihoods, is a key priority under the Swarna Andhra–2047 vision." The State aims to reach top three national rankings in milk, meat, and egg production.
