Dermatologists Reveal How to Keep Skin Hydrated and Radiant This Winter
January 18, 2026
Winter acts like a dry, harsh force on your skin. Dermatologists say cold air and indoor heating dry out your skin and weaken its natural barrier. Ravali Yalamanchili, Chief Dermatologist at Neya Dermatology, says, "During winter, the skin feels tight, dull, and dehydrated due to lower humidity and cold winds." She advises a routine that hydrates and protects the skin to keep it healthy. Oscar Pereira, skincare expert at CodeSkin, adds that dry air in northern cities like Delhi worsens dehydration, redness, and flakiness. Science backs these claims: a 2017 study showed ingredients like glycerin and hyaluronic acid reduce moisture loss for 24 hours. To fight winter dryness, use lipid-rich moisturizers and serums with ingredients such as ceramides, hyaluronic acid, and glycerin. These help draw in water and seal it in. "Ceramides are key in keeping skin cells together," Yalamanchili explains. Winter strips them faster, causing more dryness. For deeper hydration, treatments like Profhilo injectables can improve skin elasticity and moisture. Don't skip sunscreen either. UVA rays stay strong year-round and worsen pigmentation and sensitivity. "Use broad-spectrum sunscreen even in winter," warns Yalamanchili. Experts recommend a simple but strong winter skin care lineup: gentle cleanser, moisture-binding serum, rich moisturiser, face oil if needed, lip balm, and sunscreen. Pereira suggests layering serums and moisturisers for best results, exfoliating once a week, using humidifiers indoors, and drinking plenty of water. Avoid hot showers and lightweight summer creams. Remember, winter does not have to rob your skin of its glow. With science-backed products and smart care, your skin can stay soft, hydrated, and radiant all season long.
