Two Militants Arrested, 306 Acres of Illicit Poppy Destroyed in Manipur

Security forces arrested two militants linked to banned groups in Manipur, police said on Sunday, January 18, 2026. One active member of the banned People’s Liberation Army was caught from his home in Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou, Bishnupur district, on Saturday, January 17. On the same day, a member of the outlawed PREPAK (Pro) was arrested at Chairel Ahallup in Bishnupur district, according to a police officer. "Security forces continue to conduct search operations and area domination in fringe and vulnerable areas across districts," the officer added. In a separate drive from January 12 to 17 under Saikul police station limits in Kangpokpi district, security personnel destroyed 306 acres of illegal poppy cultivation.
