Hyderabad: Telangana has sent a letter to the Ministry of Jal Shakti asking it to order Andhra Pradesh to stop all construction and project work on the Polavaram-Nallamalasagar/Banakacherla Link Project (PNLP/PBLP). Telangana's Principal Secretary of Irrigation, Rahul Bojja, said Andhra Pradesh is ignoring Central Water Commission (CWC) guidelines and going ahead without permission. Telangana opposed including the PNLP/PBLP topic in talks with Andhra Pradesh, rejecting it at meetings on July 16, 2025. Despite this, Andhra Pradesh continues to prepare detailed project reports and carry out construction. Telangana also highlighted that the CWC is moving forward with the project's pre-feasibility report, which adds to the state's concerns. Mr. Bojja warned the Ministry that Telangana will only take part in the water officials' meeting on January 30 if Andhra Pradesh stops the work and CWC halts its appraisal process. Telangana also said it may use legal options to protect its interests. Andhra Pradesh’s Water Resources Minister earlier claimed the project was discussed in the July meeting and that continued talks were planned. The ongoing dispute centers on water sharing and project legality between the two states. Telangana's firm stand signals a tough negotiation ahead over the contentious river water issues.
