Despite government bans, illegal rooster fights exploded across Krishna and Godavari districts on Friday. Men, women, young and old gathered fearlessly for gambling and battles during the Sankranti festival. Near Bhimavaram, a woman cheered loudly from the VIP gallery as her rooster, Sethu, won three fights, showcasing impressive stamina and skill. Arenas also sprang up at P. Gannavaram, Razole, Palakol, and many other places in Eluru, Krishna, West Godavari, N.T.R., and neighbouring districts. Women enjoyed VIP spots while men and youth packed the arenas. Gambling games like 'gundata' and 'number lata' were common. Visitors traveled far, creating a festive vibe with snacks, ice cream, and fast food stalls around. One punter at Bhimavaram won a motorcycle after five straight wins. Another won ₹1.5 crore near Tadepalligudem on a single bet. Rooster fights and gambling raged late into the night on Kanuma, ignoring all official orders.
